Triangle Home Improvements Wood Rot repairs

Most of our jobs that involve wood rot are on the exterior of houses.  This is because they are continously exposed to mother nature and its fury.  When we are called in to do wood rot on the inside of a house it usually is because there was a water leak from a pipe or seepage around windows or flashing.  Anyway you look at it, it's going to be costly to repair.  If you suspect a leak call us and let us have a look.  An inspection now might save you thousands of dollars later.

The photos below are two examples of exterior wood rot repairs. This is a house is located in West Wake County N.C.  The first set of photos are the front entranceway.  We removed the pilaster bases to discover the problem was far worse than we thought!  The water had wicked up from the porch over the years and rotted the bases out.  We fabricated new bases out of wood, added tar paper to seal the the house under the steps, then painted and caulked the pilasters to protect them from future water damage.

The second row of photos shows the mantle over the garage that was improperly flashed so water was allowed to settle behind it. We removed it and noticed an unusual pattern of rot. Closer examination revealed it was termite damage. The only reason this house did not have more termite damage is because the termites could not get to the ground. Apparently the sun on the face kept the wood too hot and dry, and they couldn't build a tunnel to the gound fast enough.  The owner was well pleased with the repairs, and was happy to learn that the termites were confined to a small area and had died long ago.

Now here is a picture of a real wood rot problem!  This is what you end up with by sitting around and not doing a thing.  This was a good house when it was first moved to it's lot. This two story house collasped because it was ignored for too long. It was moved a few years ago and the contractors never finished the foundation work or siding. Littlle or no attention now leads to a lot of attention later. Don't let your castle end up like this!
